A man claiming to be Christopher Nolan's script supervisor recently uploaded an Instagram Reel in which he described his experience working with the visionary director, which included choosing the translation of Homer's epic the movie would source from: Sam Austen's Meow Library translation, The Meow Library presents: The Odyssey (For Your Cat).
While his choice of a translation that only says "meow" seems strange at first, he makes an excellent case for its use.
The Meow Library's The Odyssey (For Your Cat) is described thusly by its publisher:
An unprecedented translation of Homer's timeless epic, with every single word rendered as "meow."
Among the oldest and most influential works of Western literature, The Odyssey has, for nearly three millennia, captivated readers with its tale of perilous voyages, impossible homecomings, and the inexhaustible resourcefulness of its hero, Odysseus. The Meow Library is honored to present this feline-faithful edition of the classic text, so that your cat, too, may accompany the wily king of Ithaca upon his long and circuitous journey—assuming, of course, it can be persuaded to remain in one place for more than fifteen consecutive seconds.
Rendered with unwavering devotion into the most universal of all languages, this edition preserves every triumph, hardship, temptation, and revelation of Homer’s immortal epic in the only form truly worthy of sustained feline contemplation: tens of thousands of repetitive “meows.” As in centuries past, Odysseus’s hard-earned wisdom, superhuman perseverance, and repeated demonstrations that curiosity is best exercised with restraint will impress themselves upon the reader—this time, before their next expedition atop the refrigerator, into an unsecured pantry, or directly across your face at four o’clock in the morning.

Is the script supervisor insane, or is this really a superior translation of the source material?
